General Information
Before the first training
Before the first training begins, a player must complete the following
items (forms can be downloaded from the RKV website):
1. Application Form
2. Player Release Form (parent/guardian signature required)
3. Longview Recreation Center Release Form (parent/guardian signature
required).
Forms can be emailed to Rob Kaleikau prior to the first training, or
submitted at the first training session.
Training cannot
begin until all forms are completed and submitted.
Arrival
at training
Before each training session, arrive a few minutes early to stretch and
warm-up so that the entire time is devoted to training. Depending on
the skill session, a few minutes of training time may be devoted to
proper stretching and exercise of muscles before starting player
performance drills.
Attire.
Wear proper volleyball attire suitable for training.
During
the training session Players are encouraged to, (a) ask questions at anytime to
enhance the learning process, (b) get a drink whenever needed to
stay well hydrated, and, (c) train hard and have fun!
Volleyballs round-up
After drills are performed, all volleyballs are gathered up from around
the court and placed back into the cart usually by the
athlete(s) and
instructor. Parents/brother/sister/friend/etc. can help with this part
of the training (and some do), although their involvement is not
expected nor required. The sooner volleyballs are rounded up, the sooner
drills can continue.
Parental attendance
Depending on player/parent preference, parents are always welcome to
stay during the training.
No
jewelry
should be worn at any time during the training session in order to avoid
possible cuts/injury (i.e., pierced earrings, rings, bracelets
wrist/ankle), necklaces, etc.).
Payment
for training
should be made after each session by cash, check, money order (payable
to Rob Kaleikau). Cost covers gym rental, training fee, equipment,
insurance, administration.
All
communication for athletes
will generally be conducted via email so please check it frequently to
stay current on information. Home and/or work email addresses are fine,
however, please provide the email address that you use the most
frequently in order to stay updated. Notify RKV if your email address
changes.
Program, Player and
Parent Expectations:
Be
realistic.
When it comes to learning, performing, and executing volleyball skills,
athlete learning curves differ from player to player. Whether a
beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, many variables determine
whether some players progress at a rapid pace while for others it may
take more time (ex. strength, motivation, caliber of play, number of
training sessions, coachability, etc.). Because only so much can be
accomplished in one session, players and parents should have realistic
expectations as to what can be achieved during the training.
Relevancy of training.
The training is specifically geared to be relevant to an
athlete’s current position(s) on a team, or to help prepare for a
potential position(s) for the upcoming season (club, school, etc.). The
training is flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of athletes ranging
from specialist (defensive, other) to the all-around player
(hitter/setter/etc.). RKV training is designed to work in partnership
with a player’s coach to facilitate the learning process. Athletes are
therefore encouraged to communicate with their coach regarding skill
development areas needing improvement.
Fully
commit to training date/time.
Efforts are made to accommodate busy family schedules as much as
possible. Because RKV work’s in partnership with facility gym owners, we
ask that an athlete who reserves a training time be fully committed to
attending their session in order to remain in good standing with RKV
(except in the event of a medical emergency)
Please allow flexibility
Please note that every effort will be made to accommodate your
reservation. However, because of limited gym space, please allow
flexibility in your scheduling in order for RKV to accommodate as many
players as possible before resorting to a waiting list, especially
during peak periods when there are more players than time slots
available.
Unforeseen circumstances
If during a training session the instructor determines that, due to
unforeseen circumstances, the training may not be progressing in a
satisfactory manner, the session will conclude. At that point, the cost
of the session will be determined on a prorated basis.
Cancellation/Refund Policy
· 24 hr. notice must be provided to RKV to cancel a session
and avoid late fees. Failure to arrive at designated date/time
without proper notice may also result in late fees.
Training during the school volleyball season
In order to comply with athlete eligibility guidelines for Missouri
(Missouri State High School Activities Association, MSHSAA, Rule 241.0,
pg. 34-35 of MSHSAA Handbook) and Kansas (Kansas State High
School Activities Association, KSHSAA, Rule 26, pg. 34 of KSHSAA
Handbook), please note the following:
All Jr. High (7-8 grade) and High School (9-12 grade) volleyball
athletes playing on their school volleyball teams can only participate
in one-on-one private instruction during their respective volleyball
season (generally August to 1st/2nd week of
November each year). Group private instruction training is prohibited
(2 or more school athletes training together).
Following completion of the state high school volleyball tournament in
November which concludes the school volleyball season, group instruction
is then acceptable. Contact RKV if you have questions.
